We have two presentations at our August meetings:-

A Journey to the Big Island of Hawaii - Presentation by Antony Gomez.

The atmospheric and astronomical observatories on the volcanoes of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.

Edmond Halley (1656 - 1742) - Presentation by Chris Picking
Best known for the comet named in his honour Edmond Halley pursued many interests during his lifetime. Astronomer, geophysicist, mathematician, meteorologist and physicist. As a Fellow of the Royal Society, Halley was involved with many great philosophers of the day including Isaac Newton, Robert Hooke & Christopher Wren, this presentation will take a look at the life and times of this remarkable man.

Our observers evenings are dedicated to practical astronomy and include, weather permitting, telescope viewing.

“ The Realm of the Globulars”

The Milky Way dominates the early evening sky. The hub of the Milkyway is surrounded by a plethora of brilliant globular clusters, much like bees around a hive. Tonight (30^th) would be a great night to check many of them out (if the weather permits). If not then Chris Picking will take you on a digital tour of these oldest of celestial objects anyway.

YOU NEED TO BOOK IN. We need to know who and how many are coming so that we can organize the observing program and star charts. Please note these sessions are for Members Only.
