Phoenix Astronomical Society July 2010 meetings In order to get ready for Astrocamp and all the good things that are being planned for that the Council decided that we would have a film and social time this month. The film is Dark Star and is a 1974 American a science fiction tongue-in-cheek comedy motion picture. In the middle of the 22nd century, mankind has reached a point in its technological advances to enable colonization of the far reaches of the universe. Armed with intelligent "Exponential Thermostellar Bombs", the scout ship Dark Star and its crew have been in space alone for twenty years on a mission to destroy "unstable planets" which might threaten future colonization. ============================================================ Wellington Society Meeting Thursday July 22nd 7:30pm (Note change in the time) at Carter Observatory, Wellington 7:30 pm Society News and Astrocamp presentation 7:45 pm Movie – Dark Star movie 9:00 pm Supper and social time ============================================================ Wairarapa Society Meeting Friday July 23rd at 7:30pm (Note change in the time) at the Phoenix Clubrooms, Ahiaruhi, Wairarapa 7:30 pm Society News and Astrocamp presentation 7:45 pm Movie – Dark Star movie 9:00 pm Supper and social time Observing will follow the meeting if it is clear. Please note we have changed the meeting times from 7:00pm to 7:30pm. This gives a little more time for people to arrive at the meetings especially for those travelling from the Wairarapa to the Wellington meeting and vice versa. |
