Another new feature is the Cosmic Calendar which runs through
the main almanac. The entire history of the universe reduced to a single year!
As you travel through the months you will gain an appreciation of the time
scale of the occurrence of major events in the universe.
The Cosmic Calendar begins at the first moment of January 1, and
today is the last moment of December 31. Each month represents 1,142 million
years, each day 37 million years, each hour 1.56 million years, each minute
26,000 years, and each second 434 years (6 human lifetimes back to back).
The photographs this year are stunning! It is hard to believe
that some of the images have been taken by amateur astronomers. Stephen
Chadwick’s Tarantula, Gum and Propellor Nebulae look like space telescope
images.
This year Rob Wilson, a Wellington photographer, has submitted
several images. The Cosmic Emu over Stonehenge was chosen for the cover and he
has several other stunning images on the monthly pages.
There is an evocative image of star trail over Ngauruhoe by John
Burt and a delicate image of the Eagle Nebula by John Drummond.
Every year the photographs seem to get better - and this coming
year’s edition is no exception! The Almanac is also packed with information on
various astronomical events occurring throughout the year that is presented in
an easily accessible calendar format.
Seasonal star charts and
planets rise and set are still there and another returning favourite is the
Moon chart with all major features clearly labelled.
Almanacs make wonderful Christmas presents, so consider giving
them as Christmas stocking fillers.

Feedback on the Almanac 2012
Today I received the four NZ ALMANACS 2012 I ordered earlier this month. Many thanks for these very attractive and informative calendars. They make very good Christmas present. Cheers, John I do agree the photos are wonderful and my daughters love their almanacs, their copies at Christmas are always anticipated with glee. Thank you Junita Thank you, I look forward to yet another great calendar. Marion Glad to keep up our annual order – it is always so full of interesting information and fantastic photos. Alison I think you Almanac is fantastic. I love the massive information given out each month during the year, and the substance of the main pictures is really amazing. Mine doesn’t hang on the wall – it is within easy reach. Marie I’m looking forward to seeing them. I have really enjoyed my other one. It has been a great help with knowing the moons phases to plant my garden and Sunrise times. I go to Waikuku Beach every Sunday and usually one other day during the week, to see the Sunrise and send healing energy to our Earth and every living creature upon her. Diane They’re great almanacs. Josie Thankyou – I enjoy the calendars very much, the pictures are AMAZING!! Hilary Congratulations on another excellent issue. Graham Thank you very much for this nicely done beautiful calendars! Well done! Hans
